Revoked endorsement of photographer James Melia

It is with clarity and care that I, Stephanie Morgan, founder of Both Feet Actor Training, revoke my professional endorsement of photographer James Melia.

I had believed James to be someone who aligned with our values of safety, creativity, and integrity. However, I have since become aware of patterns of troubling and inappropriate behaviour, as described to me by a growing number of women who have worked with him over the last few years - far too many voices to ignore.
Our industry is built on vulnerability, trust, and the desire to be seen. That vulnerability is too often exploited, particularly by those in positions of perceived power. Women, in particular, are frequently put in compromising situations under the promise of opportunity or advancement in their careers. When professional lines are crossed and consent is manipulated, it has a lasting impact. We must take this seriously and change the culture that allows it to continue.
In light of the seriousness and consistency of these experiences, I can no longer remain silent or associated with him. A collective of women have come together after realising they were not alone. Many of them assumed they were the only one or that their experience wasn’t important, carrying a sense of shame, guilt, humiliation, uncertainty and discomfort - but this is not theirs to carry.
There is now an ongoing investigation, and I stand with those who are choosing to speak up, as difficult and brave as that is. If you have had an experience you feel uncomfortable about - even if it feels small or hard to name - please know you are not alone.Â
I share this with a deep sense of responsibility to others. Speaking up is not easy, but silence serves no one except the person causing harm. My hope is that this statement is the start of putting the truth out there and empowers others to reflect, connect, and, if they wish, step forward.
James has previously attempted to undermine my credibility and integrity in anticipation of this moment. I want to acknowledge that and to reaffirm: I stand by the truth, and by the people who have entrusted me with theirs.
If you know anyone who may have been affected, please pass this on.
With sincerity and kindness,
Stephanie Morgan
